81% of students were satisfied with the overall experience of UCLan, up 1% on 2006. The new figures place UCLan joint 5th out of the 33 modern universities formed in 1992.
Once again UCLan students gave top marks to lecturers with figures highlighting an improvement in the important assessment and feedback categories. When all institutions are ranked according to assessment and feedback results, UCLan is joint 26th out of 144 institutions.
Overall UCLan has fared well across the board. Against the 33 modern universities formed in 1992, UCLan’s scores in the six satisfaction categories are as follows:
Teaching quality: =5th
Assessment and feedback: =2nd
Academic support: =2nd
Organisation and management: 3rd
Learning resources: =19th
Personal development: =4th
Commenting on the results Professor Patrick McGhee Deputy Vice-Chancellor (academic) said: “These results are very encouraging and for the third year running highlight increases in satisfaction across the board. We work incredibly hard to improve provision for students each year and our investments in facilities, staff, and initiatives in graduate employability and retention, are now feeding through into this survey.
“We are particularly pleased that our Sociology students ranked UCLan as the best in the UK and we are among the top ten for Forensic and Archaeological Science, Journalism, Technology, Social Policy and Anthropology.
“But we are not about to get complacent. Survey feedback enables us to make continuous improvements for our students and we will be examining these results closely to see if we can enhance our position even further."
