Students from Royal Holloway, University of London are hosting ‘Oxjam’, a fundraising music festival in aid of Oxfam, 5:00pm-12:00am on Saturday 6th October 2007.Oxjam will showcase talented students from the student body who will be performing on one of the two stages that will provide constant live music. “One of the intentions of this project is to make students realise that by using their own talents and ingenuity, they can make a difference” says Lindsay Topham, Event Organiser.
Ed McGregor, member of the Oxfam team responsible for co-ordinating Oxjam says “We are aiming to raise £1.1 million for Oxfam′s work to overcome poverty through Oxjam events this year. We hope that Oxjam offers a new way for people to give time instead of money to Oxfam, and a way for people to use their passion for music for a good cause. We′re aiming for events to take place nationwide and to make a huge noise to raise awareness about Oxfam′s work.”
Tickets for Oxjam will be £5 each, which can be bought from roaming ticket-vendors during Freshers’ Week; at the Students’ Union Box Office or in Medicine, the Students’ Union Bar in the run-up to the event. Oxjam will be split over three areas, each accommodating different tastes in music and will take place in and around the Students’ Union building.
Oxjam is a month-long music festival taking place at venues throughout the UK during October to raise money for the charity, Oxfam. Last year the festival raised more than £500,000 nationwide. All profits from the event will go to helping Oxfam’s work in countries around the world.
