With over 24,000 students based at numerous sites around the capital, the University of the Arts (previously the London Institute) is the largest university in Europe for art, design, fashion, communication and the performing arts. It is a federal university, made up of five colleges: Camberwell College of Arts, Central St Martin's College of Art & Design, Chelsea College of Art & Design, London College of Fashion and London College of Communication. St Martin's is perhaps the most prestigious, but each college has its own individual character. The students' union organises a hectic social calendar for students from all colleges, and the Davies Street gallery exhibits work by students and alumni, including many leading artists and designers.
