According to the HESA survey almost 97 per cent of Bath Spa's graduates went into employment or onto further study within six months of graduation in 2006-7.
Bath Spa achieved fifth place by exceeding its target benchmark of just over 93 per cent by one of the widest margins in the country for any university.
The figures are among a series of indicators released by HESA every year to measure the performance of all 156 higher education institutions in the UK. These are set against a benchmark for each university, taking into account its particular characteristics, to compare it with other institutions and the higher education sector as a whole.
The performance indicators show Bath Spa University also doing well on a number of other scores. Its drop-out rate from undergraduate courses was low at 6.3 per cent, compared to a benchmark of 12.2 per cent. Bath Spa also recruited a high proportion of its new students from state schools and colleges - almost 95 per cent against a benchmark of 90.4 per cent.
