The relocation of Thanet College to a site on Millennium Way, Broadstairs, will enable both institutions to work more closely together and will demonstrate their commitment to providing a range of further and higher education opportunities to the people of East Kent.
Thanet College is currently at the beginning of the planning process and has recently received outline planning permission from Thanet District Council. It is now working on detailed plans which will be submitted to the authority in January 2008.
Canterbury Christ Church University’s Senior Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Jan Druker, said: “This is an exciting opportunity for both Canterbury Christ Church University and Thanet College. The University already enjoys a full working relationship with Thanet College. Both institutions signed a Progression Accord last year which signified a formal link between us and guaranteed a place at the University to any successful Thanet College student with the appropriate qualifications and supportive reference. The College’s relocation to a site close to our own will enable us to deliver a joined-up provision and integrated learning opportunities for and encourage students to progress on to higher education.”
Principal of Thanet College, Sue Buss, said: “This move will enable the two institutions to work more closely together to ensure that more students have a chance to attend university. The College has worked in conjunction with Canterbury Christ Church University from the beginning of the planning process and is delighted that the University is supportive of its plans. Students from Thanet College regularly consider Canterbury Christ Church as their higher education provider and the close links between the two institutions make this relocation an easy process.”
