Among the pieces to be seen at the exhibition, which is also entitled, “Thirst” at the Beldam Gallery, at Brunel University, in West London, is a series of colourful, close-up, illuminated abstract images of flowers and plants called “Morning Dew” by photographer Susie Crussell, 26, of Berkhamstead Road, in Chesham, Bucks.
Susie, who studied at Amersham and Wycombe College, in Buckinghamshire, said: “The inspiration for my work came after seeing the Wildlife Photographer of the Year Awards at the National History Museum, in London.
“The use of light boxes allowed me to show my work in a way I had never done before. I have always had a passion for water and wanted to incorporate it in the project in an ‘up close and personal’ view.” Susie is also interested in still life.
Other artists have also interpreted the theme of thirst in watery terms, such as Jim Turner, who graduated with an HND in Photography and Digital Imaging from Amersham and Wycombe College, this year. He is showing a series of digital images called “Memory of Water.”
Others have interpreted the show’s title in the general way of “a strong and eager desire for something.” The show also includes artists from Central St Martins, London; Oxford Brookes University and the Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art, University of Oxford.
“Thirst,” Beldam Gallery, Wilfred Brown Building, Brunel University, Cleveland Road, Uxbridge, Middlesex, UB8 3PH. Until October 24. Mon-Fri 9am-5pm. Free. Tel: 01895 266074; email: [email protected]
