Professor Wasileh Petro-Nustas, a Dean of the University of Jordan will deliver her first lecture on Thursday 26 April to an audience including; Paul Martin the Chief Nursing Officer for Scotland, the Chief Consular of the Jordanian Embassy in London and members of the Jordanian community in Glasgow.
Professor Petro-Nustas will use the opportunity of her inaugural lecture as visiting Professor to focus on the transformation of nursing in Jordan to a fully fledged profession within a relatively short period of time. She will explore the political and economic drivers for this rapid development and the sociological impact on the status of women in Jordanian society.
Senior Lecturer Dr Charles Docherty of the Nursing, Midwifery and Community Health Department strongly welcomed the visit: "Professor Petro-Nustas and her colleagues in Jordan have excellent relationships with our school and we have a tradition of sharing and co-operation. Some of our activities have been actively supported by the British Council and the Department for International Development. This visit and the position of Visiting Professor will strengthen those ties both academically and culturally."
Professor Petro-Nustas will help the department by sharing her knowledge and contributing to international research in areas of her expertise. Professor Petro-Nustas studied in the United States, her background is in women's health and community nursing.
The School of Nursing Midwifery and Community Health at Glasgow Caledonian University have had a long association with nursing and midwifery in Jordan and have been instrumental in key areas of research and innovative development.
