**出国的原因及目的**
1.去英国做什么?
To study, I want to take the postgraduate courses in law school of university of Southampton.
2.为什么选择英国?
Since what I focus on is the world fame of this university on the research of maritime law, besides, Southampton Law School is one of only 8 U.K. law schools to hold the highest rating for international excellence in legal research (RAE 5*).
3.在选择英国之前是否考虑过其它国家?或是否和其它国家进行过比较?
Actually I have considered US as another choice of mine. Yes! I have made a comparison between these two countries.
4.你认为英国与其它国家相比有什么优势吗?或和其它国家比较过什么?
There are at least three advantages. First, I think the tuition fee is lower than that of the US, for example, the tuition fee of university of Southampton is 9050 pounds, and that of US law schools is at least 30,000
USD per year. Second, approximately 60-70% of the maritime arbitrations are arranged in UK, some of the arbitrators are the professors of this university, taking their courses would be a fortune to me in my future career. Third, maritime law is originated in England viewed in the world scope, and maritime law and other related laws are the most complex and intergrated ones in the world.

I had the plan of going to UK to study maritime law three years ago when I was a sophomore.
7.难道有什么重大的变故使你产生出国的念头吗?
No, I just want to go to UK to have my further study, comparing the duration of graduate courses, I think that it may save time to finish postgraduate courses, in UK, the duration of postgraduate courses is one to one and half year, in china, however, it is two or three years, in my university, the duration is still three years. Besides, the professionals who may handle maritime cases are extremely needed in mainland of China, since every year there are many maritime cases happened in China or are related with Chinese vessels or other related corporations in the world wide, such specialists who have been educated and trained professionally are very much welcomed to com back to China, the main organizations that recruit such specialists are for example: insurance company, shipping company, admiralty court, law firm, international trade company and so forth.

I may not say that I know much about UK, but I just want to say that I know it in a certain degree. For example, I know something about the universities and the living style of local people, besides, I also know something about the weather in UK.

Yes. My professor introduced this university and the city of Southampton to me, and some friends who have been there before made a general introduction to me.

Yes. In recent years, about one or two students would go to this university to take postgraduate courses every year. And there are about 8-10 students, including undergraduate students and graduate students, choose UK as their destination.

First, I checked the requirement of this university on the internet, and then I asked them deliver a package of application material. Lastly, after I finished filling the application form, I sent it with other documents directly to this university.

Yes! In the education of laws, some universities are of world fame, such as: Oxford, Cambridge, Durham, Bristol, UCL, KCL, LSE, Manchester, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Exeter, and other universities.

Yes. Among all the universities, all data that I found shows that the education of maritime law in university of Southampton is the best one.

7.你为什么不在国内读大学?
Four reasons. First, it will take more than two years to get postgraduate’s degree, so it is really much more time-consuming; secondly, the education on maritime law in UK has been a long history, which made it a mature subject, however, in China, education on maritime law and other related laws began in the early 1900, and the materials in mainland is still quite limited. Besides, the professionals who may handle maritime cases are extremely needed in mainland of China, since every year there are many maritime cases happened in China or are related with Chinese vessels or other related corporations in the world wide, such specialists who have been educated and trained professionally are very much welcomed to com back to China, the main organizations that welcome such specialists are for example: insurance company, shipping company, admiralty court, law firm, international trade company and so forth.

The university offers no specific courses on pre-sessional courses, however, the course aims to help students:
· improve their English legal terminology
· develop reading skills and apply these to law-related materials
· develop appropriate academic writing skills
· develop speaking skills in a legal context
· improve listening skills ( with School of Law lectures)
· develop critical thinking and reference skills
· develop (where necessary) required IT skills
By the end of the course, students will also be:
· familiar with the University and its facilities
· familiar with law materials and law resources at the University
· accustomed to living and studying in Southampton

Yes. Besides Southampton, I have applied LSE, UCL, Bristol and Queen Mary, I failed in applying for LL.M courses in the first two universities, but I successfully applied for the last two.

Since I know that the graduate study in university of Southampton would be hard and competitive, so I don’t think I would have time to do a part-time job. I currently have no plan to take a part-time job at least.

Although doing a part-time job would earn some money, however, it would cost me much time. As a student, the main aim of going to UK is to study, not to earn money. In order to get more social experience, if time is enough, it is not a bad choice to do a part-time job.

In the circumstances that there would be no enough fund to use, and in order to make my life more pluralistic, I may consider to do a part-time job under the premise that negative influence would not be imposed on the postgraduate study.

I think I will.
2.你为什么这么肯定呢?
There are three reasons. Firstly, I have great interests on this subject, a person with great interests on certain aspect may pay more attention and time onto it, interest is the pre-requisite of doing something well. Secondly, I have no plan to take a part-time job, this may guarantee that I may have enough time to study. Third, I have written some essays on maritime law, some of which have been published, I also have read some books which are the text books of this university on the teaching of maritime law, which is helpful for future study.
3.你毕业后准备继续深造吗?
I will go back to China to find a job.
4.你为什么不准备继续在英国深造呢?
I think a postgraduate degree in maritime law is useful enough to find a good job in mainland.

6.你是在英国读的书，为什么不准备在英国工作一段时间来增加工作经验呢?
If I have a chance to practice legal knowledge in a law firm in UK for one or two months, I think it would bring many benefits for my future career in China. But what I want to emphasize here is that what I want to do mostly is to study and feel the academic atmosphere there, not for finding a job and earning some money, because I strongly hold that there would be a greater space for specialists on maritime law to show their talent and acqierement in China.
7.你毕业后有什么打算?
I want to work in a law firm on maritime cases in Shanghai or Hong Kong, after working several years, gaining much experience on handling maritime cases and having enough my own clients, I may choose to register my own law firm with other partners. Maybe there would be some unpredictable factors that may influence the original plan, the plan, however, would not have big change if I hold my career belief.
9.你预期的年薪是多少?
I would not expect too high salary, if I am forced to tell the salary that I want to gain per month, I would say that 3000-3500 RMB per month is enough.

I think I may if I work hard.

Yes, I think it worth. Since I not only may gain the cutting edge knowledge of maritime law, I also would gain some living experience in a foreign country which would help me to shape my personality.
