The Clyde Auditorium is a stunning concert venue in Glasgow. Having been home to a massive variety of international superstars, the auditorium is a majestic piece of architecture which dominates the Glaswegian skyline. With many luxury Glasgow hotels in the surrounding area, this is an attraction that must not be left out on your itinerary. In 1995, plans began about wanting to expand the SECC complex. The 3000 seat arena was finally designed by the architects Foster and Partners and was completed in 1997. By this point, it had gained the nickname of The Armadillo due to the buildings distinct shape that resembled the animal. One of the sites engineers Ian Reilly was actually the one who initiated the nickname during construction. Another comparison that was made was with the Sydney Opera House, even though ironically the architects still argue that the Sydney counterpart was not actually part of the influences behind the design. The building now dominates the Queens dock on the River Clyde and is directly connected to the major Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre. The other face of the arena is directly connected to the Crowne Plaza as well to ensure that famous stars can have both an easy entrance and exit to the venue.Having been very successful in recent years, this led onto plans for a third venue to be built within the complex, known as the Scottish Hydro Arena which will be completed in 2013. The building has been the venue to hold both the Britains Got Talent (series two to four) and X-Factor (series one to four) auditions. Being the place where worldwide superstar Susan Boyle was found, the arena was soon featured in animated TV show The Simpsons which parodied the famous Boyle audition from January 2009.If you would like to visit the area, there are many hotels in Perthshire if the idea of being central in Glasgow doesnt appeal to you. The Clyde Auditorium has literally seen ordinary people catapulted into fame overnight and you too could join them in this historic and magnificent site.
