The start of the 2011 Christmas season is well under way and soon it will be the time to do that last minute shopping. Christmas markets are famous throughout Europe and you can usually pick up something different. Today I want to give you some of my favorite markets to visit throughout Europe this festive season.Austria - Schönbrunn Christmas & New Year´s MarketThis enchanting market will take place from the 19th of November to the 26 December. Typical Austrian style and a romantic style village the market is full of glittering lights and Christmas feeling.There are over 75 market stalls selling Christmas lights, decorations and handmade gifts. Take a ride on one of Austria's famous horse and carrages through the cobbled streets followed by Austrian wine and the sound of the choir what better place to get in the mood for Christmas. Denmark - Tivoli Christmas MarketTo get a true flavor of the Danish festive season head over to the Tivoli Christmas Market. Surrounded by beautiful scenery, good food and plenty of shopping. The market venue is ideal for last minute shopping, dinning in one of the 20 restaurants in downtown Tivoli and having a good time. Whilst in Denmark make sure you get to try "gløgg & æbleskiver" a traditional spiced wine accompanied by cakes with jam. Yummy. My favorite buy is the marzipan cakes and sampling some of Germany's finest cuisine. Open from 21st Nov to the 30th Dec. Switzerland - Basel, The Christmas CityIf you are heading to Basel in Switzerland you are in for a treat. Known as Europe's Christmas city it has to be one of the most exciting festive trips you will go on. Attractive and a deep rooted tradition of the city is well worth a visit. The warm feeling of Christmas lights fill the streets with over 100 pine trees decorated. The shops and restaurants also blitz up with the Christmas lights and the shopping is every shopaholics dream. Specialized Christmas shops sell everything you could think of for Santa sacks and stocking fillers and you can even go on guided Christmas tours. Open from 24th Nov to 23rd Dec. UK - Leeds Caribbean Christmas FairLeeds known to be the United Kingdoms financial city comes alive this time of year. The Caribbean Christmas Fair lets you forget about the UK weather with streets full of stalls selling crafts, gifts for the kids, giveaways and competitions. Wine, liqueurs and different menus for you to try makes this Christmas market a great day out for the whole family. Don't forget to visit Santa whilst visiting. Dates this year are the 26th and 27th of November. Leeds also holds the famous Christkindelmarkt (German market) Open From the 11th Nov to 18th Dec in the Millennium square.
