A recommended travel itinerary for Argentina would include Buenos Aires, the vibrant political and cultural capital, Iguazu Falls, the extraordinary stretch of cascades along the Iguazu River and El Calafate, the magnificent glacier field in the heart of Patagonia. One point of interest just 30km from Buenos Aires is the town of Tigre. Tigre is on the Parana Delta and is an important weekend destination for Buenos Aires residents. It is easily reached by bus and train from the capital just a short distance away. The Parana Delta is the area of land and water (over 5,000 square miles) created when the Parana River becomes an alluvial basin between the provinces of Entre Rios and Santa Fe. The river flows into the flat arid area and has flooded the region with a series of estuaries. The town of Tigre was built on one of the islands created by the delta. The name stems from the tigers or jaguars that were hunted in the region a long time ago. The best way to see explore this magnificent delta is to take a boat winding in and around the different waterways. You can explore the nature, history and origins of this beautiful natural setting, rowing in shallow waters, discovering magical sightseeing spots, and taking walks on some of the many islands. It is an extraordinary place to watch for birds and if you are interested in photography dont leave your camera at home. The fishing is good, and there are plenty of opportunities to relax or bathe in the rivers.An exciting route to the town of Tigre involves taking the Tren de la Costa (train of the coast) which offers awesome views of the beautiful stretches of Rio de la Plata and charming homes dotting the coast. The train runs back and forth from Buenos Aires all day long. Definitely give yourself a full day in the Parana Delta; the natural beauty is astounding and there is plenty to keep you occupied. From Buenos Aires take a flight to Iguazu Falls. Iguazu Falls can be visited from the Argentina side as well as the Brazil side. It is definitely recommended that you take both tours, as the perspectives and experiences with this powerful series of cataracts is very different and both are equally remarkable. In order to take both tours, give yourself at least two days at the falls.From Iguazu you can fly to El Calafate, located in the beautiful and extraordinary Patagonia ice field. From El Calafate you are just a short distance from the world famous Perito Moreno glacier. This is a sight to see amidst the amazing tranquility and serenity of the landscapes. The total calm of the region is interrupted by huge cracking chunks of ice that fall off into the calm waters below.
