You may wonder how a new mystery/detective series could get you to watch when network and cable TV is saturated with them. Nathan Fillion is the star luminary in the cast, playing the part of Richard Castle Is it possible this is the person who portrayed Dr.Pomattor in Adrienne Shelley's Waitress? Not doubt it is the same person who played Captain Hammer in 'Dr. Horrible's Sing Along'. But this new Phillip Marlowe infuses Castle with the right mixture of wit, mystery, and comedic relief. Ladies - there is plenty here for you also. Then there's Stana Katic as Detective Kate Beckett. She's been around in one or two episodes of several TV shows, but now, deservedly, costars in one of her own. Add to that Castle's daughter, Alexis (Molly C. Quinn), and his mother, Martha Heath (Susan Sullivan) and a police force filled with well-portrayed supporting actors.However, the powerful writing is what drives this great show. The pilot was well done by Andrew W. Marlowe, Barry Schindel, David Grae and Charles Murray. I didn't think they could sustain the twist and turns, fascinating crimes, and interaction between the characters for much longer. Till now i was wrong.The chemistry between Castle and Beckett is palpable which plays well into their love-hate relationship. Much to her disdain, Castle is given permission to follow Beckett. He has redeeming qualities despite frequently getting in the way, speaking out of turn, and being a general nuisance to Beckett. Beckett can't help but grow to care about Castle as she learns to value his insights and appreciate the risks he takes to crack cases. And he has small ways of endearing himself to the staff, such as buying them a very upscale coffee machine.Adding to the mix are Castle's mother and daughter who couldn't be different. His mother is immature, takes advantage, and bears watching. Wise beyond her age, the daughter holds her grandmother in line and provides a lot of support for her father. As a devoted father, Castle can't help buy show concern about his daughter, even though she's fully capable of taking care of herself. Of all the actors in the series, Molly C. Quinn is one of the best. She could spend a long time in the spotlight witch such strong talent.I cannot wait to watch the next episode. I hope it will run for a long time.
