Automation technologies represent a fundamental aspect of any modern industry. The major types of industrial automation solutions, such as DCS, PLC, SCADA, and MES, are used on a large-scale in process and discrete industries.DCS technologie Awhile ago, I got an email from one of the "gurus" I follow and it shocked me. The gist of it was this person wanted to trade services for a household item.To say it floored me would be an understatement. What was worse was a few days later t
In Viral Copy:Trading Words for Traffic, Brian Clark discusses eleven ways thatbloggers can viralize their posts. Brian ends his report with a warningto "Avoid the Dark Side" when seeking attention for your blog. Brianthen recounts the story of how the 1970's fictional radio stationmanager Arthur Carlson, of the sitcom WKRP in Cincinnati, arranged tohave live turkeys dropped out of a helicopter as a Thanksgivingpublicity stunt. Because turkeys cannot fly, dropping the birds totheir deaths did not bring the radio station the kind of publicity thatthey desired. Brian's message: Not all publicity is good publicity;Avoid attention-getting schemes akin to dropping turkeys out of ahelicopter. It was Brian's advice that came to mind as I spent afew weeks in the blogosphere looking for information about the leadingpresidential candidates. My intention was to learn the candidates'positions on issues that affect the self-employed. What I found insteadleft me feeling as though I was wading through miles of virtual turkeycarnage. My search made it painfully apparent that splattingcertain turkeys is not only socially acceptable, it is as American aswaving the flag at a Fourth of July parade. Turkeys practicing "weird"religions, turkeys married to guys named Bill, dieting Evangelicalturkeys, or turkeys that happen to share the same middle name as aterrorist seem to be fair game. These unfortunate gobblers bring agladiator colosseum-sized crowd anxious to watch the flightless birdsplunge to their deaths from America the Beautiful's spacious skies ontoher amber waves of grain.I suppose you could look at it as puregenius - Post an article to your blog poking a little fun atindividuals, groups, or ideologies that readers love to hate. Thenwatch the site counter and number of bigoted comments rise. It is theseemingly perfect formula for successful and profitable blogging, butit comes at a greater price.Words do not stay words forever. They lead to action. In a sense, hateful words will eventually becomethe proverbial sticks and stones that do the bone breaking. A climateof mean-spirited political bantering also encourages our children totease and bully. Don't think for one minute that we grown-ups can goaround name-calling and not expect our nation's children to do thesame. The message we are sending our children is that it is O.K. totease, pick on, make fun of, discriminate against, or hate someonebecause of their name, their religion, their gender, their race, theirgeneral beliefs, etc.Last week, I had a chance to discuss thistopic with Scott Allen. Scott is the About.com Guide to Entrepreneurs. He is also the co-author of The Virtual Handshake: Opening Doors andClosing Deals Online. Scott's advice to me sums it up best: "In ourbusiness and in our lives, peacemaking cannot be a hobby. It has to bea way of business or it is not a way of life." Scott also went on tosay, "We spend more waking-hours working than anything else. You can'twork towards peace in the world if you take an antagonistic approach tobusiness or support others in doing the same... If you are profitingoff of bigotry, what does that say about you?"To read about whatusing political bigotry in blogging is doing to America, visithttp://workfromhomechoices.com/blog/viral-blogging-what-is-the-price-of-profiting-from-the-politics-of-bigotry-and-hate/
