With both parents outside the home, children are being placed into child care centers at a greater rate. Child care can be stressful with feelings of competition, guilt, and jealousy for parents of children in childcare. Many parents feel guilty not having the ability to spend their entire day with their child, and struggle to find the time to relax and enjoy each other's company. By properly bonding with baby early in life, parents will have no problem maintaining a relationship once they enter into child care. Having anunderstanding of baby's cues, needs, wants and paying attention to meeting those needs creates many benefits. In fact there many benefits that come with placing a child into child care, baby can learn new and different things from building relationships with new caregivers. These relationships can help prepare your child for future relationships and interactions with teachers, bosses and other adults. Other caregivers are a wonderful resource for information on child rearing. They can answer some of the tough questions surrounding sleep and behavioral issues. While feelings of jealousy can happen it is important to maintain a good relationship with your caregiver as they can provide much needed support and empathy to new parents. Spending so much time with your child enables them to learn key aspects of their routine, their likes and dislikes as well as other imperative information.While there are benefits to having a child in care, there can be negative effects as well. Some shy children may experience increased stress in an environment with few caregivers but many children. The child may not feel connected or understood when the caregiver doesn't have the individual time available to understand cries or non-verbal cues. Larger centers can provide an increased risk of illness which increases stress and a feeling of vulnerability. Placing the child in the care of a family member, or a single, consistent caregiver is often recommended. However, parents can help meet those extra needs by being a supprtogin, loving and stable caregiver when the child is at home.While, you may miss out on some events it is important to utilize the time that you do have with your child. Making morning and nightly rituals to decompress together, interact and strengthen your bond. Taking time to massage baby is a great way to relax and maintain your bond as well as help baby digest dinner, and sleep better through the night.
