American artist Nancy Landauer creates mixed media works that are rhythmical and expressive. Landauer works with acrylic, oil pastel, and paper collage to layer her canvases with intricately conceived designs. She often incorporates glass beads, rhinestones, and other elements into her artwork. She builds each abstract piece by weaving together color and pattern in layers, fragmenting and interchanging them so that they inform each other. A mixture of soft curves and energetic slashes conveys energy. The artist uses texture to add an additional element to each piece, similar to the way a musician adds instruments to a composition. The music being listened to during the creative process is an integral part of each piece she creates. Though they are full of inventiveness, each artwork presents one clear idea at a time.Landauer also creates representational pieces inspired by the music she listens to, featuring a central figure in a context of playful color and pattern. Musical icons, text, and archival photographs are surrounded by playful geometric acrobatics. They reference art from decades past, from sixties pop art through the graphic style of the eighties, with a contemporary twist.Nancy Landauer studied illustration in New York City and today lives in Westport, Connecticut.
