Jorge Russinke’s work evokes both the playful wonder of childhood and the serious expertise of contemporary painting. Russinke paints with oil, occasionally adding a mixed media element. His pieces are masterfully composed, with careful consideration to line and tonal balance as each work shows a close-up of a kaleidoscopic pattern that whirls with energy. Russinke forgoes the potential confusion of such a design by zooming in for the detail, with just a hint of repetition. His colors are warm and smooth, and his geometry is perfectly executed. Russinke’s technique ensures that the paintings remain relatable despite entering some unfamiliar and fairly abstract territory. He includes representative images in his patterns – a body, a plant, or an everyday object – while maintaining the graphic integrity of the pattern. His work asks the audience to consider line and color as things that move and have direction. Russinke was born in Colombia and today splits his time between Orlando, Florida and Cali, Colombia. He has exhibited in both Colombia and the United States, as well as in Ecuador.Exhibition Dates: March 8, 2016 – March 29, 2016Reception: Thursday March 10, 2016, 6:00pm – 8:00pmGallery Hours: Tues-Sat 11:00am – 6:00pmGallery Location: 530 West 25th St, Chelsea, New YorkEvent URL: http://www.agora-gallery.com/artistpage/Jorge_Russinke.aspxFeatured Artists:Lars Aukrust | Marianne Bech | Gerd Dagne | Gregg Emery | Annita Faitaki | Cesar Garcia | Stephanie E. Buzzing in energy, color, form, and texture, the works on display hint at real worlds while obscuring just enough to direct the viewer’s experience and effectively control the conversation. Abstractions flourish across canvas, while figures bend and transform before the viewers’ eyes. Varying on the scale of fiction and reality, the artworks featured tell a unique story of humanity, nature, and society in inventive ways. Most of all, however, they tell a story of movement and change: making this an exhibition that truly takes you from one state of mind to somewhere completely new and exciting.
