Some forms of parent involvement with the school such as communications with school, volunteering, attending school events and parent--parent connections appeared to have little effect on student achievement, especially in high school. Unplag, an online plagiarism detector offering several checking types and a report with similarities rate, announces the launch of a new free tool for educators after getting official approval from the Google team. Once successfully implemented in the first quarter of 2016, every teacher or professor across the globe will be able to scan student works for similarities against the vast digitized collection of materials stored in Google Books database. Negotiations with Google Books started in early August 2015. Having carefully considered the Unplag team’s request, Google got behind the idea to launch the tool and gave its positive feedback three months later. The only requirement from Google was to make the tool accessible absolutely for free. And this was exactly what Unplag intended to do. “Not only the Internet has always been the source of information for all those who study, it has already turned into “an emergency kit” for those who cheat,” said Anastasia Parokha, Chief Marketing Officer, Product Owner at Unplag. “These opportunities are countless including millions of books and journal articles that are available in Google Books quite often used by cheaters too. To make them accomplish writing tasks responsibly with proper attribution of original sources, we decided to help educators enhance the process of automatic plagiarism checks. The key reason behind our decision was to promote academic honesty worldwide.” Google Books is the only service having a patent for scanning physical books, journals and magazines since 2009. Using infrared light this system allows to digitize printed materials at 1,000 pages per hour. With an approximate number of book titles exceeding 25 million, Unplag will be the first tool empowered to run full-text similarity searches against the Google Books repository. That’s why the chances to carry out detailed checks and provide accurate scanning results will be increased. About Unplag:Unplag.com, an online plagiarism detection engine, was officially launched in 2014 to meet the needs of educators, students and educational establishments.
