Tamerica has released a bunch of new binding machines and one of them is the FlexiBind. This is a pretty good device but it does have some things to consider before investing in it. Here are its strengths and weaknesses: Strengths: The FlexiBind lives up to its name in that it's extremely flexible. This device can bind your documents with plastic combs, color coils, and wire spines so you'll able to choose which method is best for a particular document. This machine can handle both wire sizes (3:1 and 4:1) so you can bind both short and long books. As far as binding capacities go, the FlexiBind doesn't fail to impress. The machine can handle wire spines that are up to 1" thick; 2-inch plastic combs; and color coils that are up to 25 millimeters across. The largest plastic combs are 2" wide so this machine is a great option if you're really into comb binding but still want to be able to use other methods occasionally. This device has an electric coil inserter which will be very handy when you're binding your documents with color coils. The inserter is controlled via a foot pedal so it's really easy to use. (Note: the foot pedal comes with the device.) If you're working with wire spines, there is a built-in wire closer as well. The FlexiBind has a unique design that really helps it stand out. It definitely looks different than the other binding machines currently on the market. It has an ergonomic punching handle so you won't get tired when binding a lot of documents. Tamerica usually makes products that are incredibly durable and that's definitely the case with the FlexiBind. This device features all-metal construction so you can expect to get years of use out of it. Since it offers three different binding methods, the machine is an terrific choice for offices, schools, and binderies. Weaknesses: This machine's warranty leaves something to be desired. It only lasts for three months which doesn't seem long enough for this kind of device. You should look for a different all-in-one machine if three months isn't enough coverage for you. The FlexiBind is great for experienced users but people who are new to bookbinding may find it difficult to use. However, the more you use this machine, the easier it becomes to bind your documents. Color coil thickness tops out at 50 mm. Thus, it's a bit disappointing that you can only use coils that are up to 25 mm thick with this machine. The same goes for wire spines which can be up to 1.5" thick. The Tamerica FlexiBind is notable because it offers a few different binding methods all in one machine. This device is very durable, looks great, and the binding capacities are pretty good, especially if you want to bind books with plastic combs. However, consider the short warranty and the ease-of-use factor. And if the FlexiBind is right for you, consider getting it today.
