Manufacturers of electric cars are in a rush to develop something thatwould compel the market into seriously considering the battery-ranautomobile in lieu of the gasoline-fed ones. In fact, Tesla (apublicly-listed car manufacturer), has started producing a family carthat would eventually replace sedans designed to run 300 miles withouthaving to stop to re-charge its battery.Initially called asModel S, the new Tesla baby is designed to accommodate sevenpassengers, or equivalent to one family. Model S however would onlybe available to the public in 2011.Expensive, but wise buyArticlesposted in the internet however say that the new Tesla battery-ran carwould not come in cheap as the unit alone would sound expensive. However, running on a battery-powered car for the use of an entirefamily for sometime, would eventually translate into economic savings.Thecost of running a battery-ran car is comparatively cheaper in the longrun as the pump price of gasoline and diesel fuels appears on an upwardtrend. Estimates have it that a fully-charged electric car actuallycosts around five dollars. What makes electric cars costefficient is the current trend in the price of crude oil in the worldmarket. Prices are soaring and supplies seemed getting limited as aresult of the new trade policies of oil-exporting countries in themiddle-east Asia.Initial calculations show that a familyrunning a battery-ran car can actually save some $ 15,000 per year ascompared to using gasoline-fed sedans.Slice of the marketThereis however a brewing rivalry among other car manufacturers, which likeTesla, are also eyeing a share in what appears to be a viable marketinsofar as the automotive industry is concerned.Although noneof the potential rivals have started producing electric cars that wouldmatch that of Teslas, these entities, made public announcements onwhat they are actually working out --- an electric car model that iscost efficient and runs on a maximum of 60 miles per hour.Whateven makes it more promising that that it reaches the maximum speed injust five seconds and charging time for its battery would be fullycompleted in just ten minutes. From there, the car would be able to runfor 200 miles. There is however no announcement as to how manypassengers can actually fit in their version of the electric car.The cost: Fifteen thousand poundsAnother car manufacturer, the world renowned Volvo, said that they intend to revolutionize electricity-powered vehicles.Accordingto Volvo, they are closing on to a battery-ran car that is capable ofrunning 60 miles per hour at the maximum. Likewise, they claimed thattheir version of the electric car would peak its maximum speed in justten seconds. As to how it would look like, Volvo said that it would bemore of a futuristic car with flap up-doors and a transparent roof.Futuristicas it is, it appears that Volvos version of the electric car would notbe as spacious as Tesla is conceptualizing. Their version couldactually just be a two seater. Its eco-friendly tooTheseideas, although still not in the market, have been conceptualized anddesigned not just to beat the economic hardships, which include thesoaring cost and availability of petroleum products but is also made tohelp save the environment.
