Coming in at around a mere 60 dollars, theTamerica LP-120 is a surprisingly affordable laminating machine that isdesigned to laminate small documents like business cards, luggage tags, name badges, and identification cards. Relatively new to the market, but already garnering a fair amount of attention, the LP120 is quitefeature rich. In fact, this machine offers many things that you willgenerally only find in larger, more expensive laminating machines. Here, we are going to delve into and discuss some of the pros and consof the LP-120 in order to help you decide whether the machine is rightfor you. Pros: Probably the most remarkable thing about the LP 120 isits ability to handle pouches from 3mil to 10mil thick. Almost all ofthe other smaller pouch laminators on the market can only handle 3 to5mil pouches, and because 3mil aren't generally available in smallersizes, they are for all intents and purposes limited to 5mil. The LP120, on the other hand, takes all comers and can handle documents withvirtually any laminating pouch available on the market.Anadjustable temperature feature is also something you don't generallyfind in a laminator at this price point, but the LP 120 lets you adjusttemps from one hundred to one hundred sixty degrees centigrade. This isa great feature if you need to adjust the machine for differentthicknesses of laminate or for thicker documents.TheTamerica LP-120 looks to be extremely well put together for its lowprice point. It offers a metal casing and is built like a laminatingmachine that should cost much much more than it does. Cons: In our initial testing of the LP-120, we noticed aslight odor of something burning. Customer service assured me that thiswas normal for the first few uses of machine and that the odor woulddisappear eventually. While that proved to be true, it would be nice ifthe burning smell didn't need to appear in the first place.Thethroat width of 4.7 inches enables you to run pouches up to four and ahalf inches in width. While this will get you through most jobs, youcannot use this machine to laminate larger format documents.Thoughthe box claims that the LP-120 can do cold laminating, we couldn'tfigure out how. Just turn the heat all the way down perhaps? We are notsure. We found it a little off putting that the motor rancontinuously while the machine was turned on. While not a problem forinfrequent users, if you use it a lot you may want to watch out forworn out gears causing the machine to fail. The warranty ofa mere ninety days seems a little thin, though we guess that even ifthe machine only lasts a year or two, you could buy two or three moreand still end up spending less than you would buying one of thecomparable machines on the market. Recommendation: For a small office, school, or organization that generally needs tolaminate small documents, the Tamerica LP-120 simply can't be beatenfor the price. On the other hand, if you plan on using it more often,it might be wise to seek out a machine that has a longer warranty andthat doesn't have a continuously-running motor.
