An electric comb binding machine is agreat choice if you like the look of comb binding but want to make theprocess a little bit easier. One of the better electric devicesavailable is the GBC CombBind C110e. It's an entry-level binder that'sgreat for offices that want to bind a few documents a couple of timesper week. Here's a list of this product's strengths and weaknesses.... Strengths: The C110e has a pretty good binding capacity of 300 sheets. This should be a good enough capacity for a lot of potential users.Thisproduct can also punch 15 sheets at once. You can do it simply bypressing the button located on the left side of the machine afteryou've inserted your paper into the device. Since there's no handlethat's located on either side of the device, the chances of developingor aggravating a repetitive motion condition (i.e. carpal tunnelsyndrome) are slim. You can use both plastic combs and GBC ZipBind spines with the C110e. It has a storage tray for your supplies.Vitalparts of this machine are made from metal, including the comb opener. This is fantastic because a comb opener with plastic parts (especiallythe teeth) would be rendered useless after a period of time. The machine has a comb selector guide to make selecting the right supplies for your books a little easier.Bothplastic and oversized covers can be used with this device. There is anadjustable edge guide that makes working with oversized covers bothpossible and easy. The C110e has a nice, contemporary designthat should be appealing to a lot of people. It's also prettylightweight so you won't struggle when moving it. (The product weighsin at 24 pounds.)This is a very affordable product and it comes with a limited one-year warranty you can use if problems arise.Weaknesses: Although the 300-sheet punching capacity is good for anentry-level comb binding machine, this does mean that the device isn'tideal for organizations that routinely produce longer documents. Notonly can it not punch a super long document, it wouldn't be able tostand up to heavy, frequent use.Like some of the other GBCcomb binding machines, the C110e doesn't do well if you try to punchplastic covers with it. If you decide to do so, make sure you don'tpunch more than 2 per lift. Trying to punch anymore will causeproblems, potentially even damaging the motor. This machinelacks disengageable dies, so you will mainly be stuck with creatingdocuments that are 8.5" x 11". Trying to create books that are largeror smaller than that will be tricky and may not be possible at allunless you get creative. There is also no adjustable depth of punch margin control so you won't be able to dictate where your paper is punched.Whilethe C110e lacks a lot of the features most often found in higher-enddevices, it nonetheless is a reasonably priced product that would begreat for offices needing an electric comb binding machine foroccasional use. It's entry-level for sure, but it works well, and it'sa great value, so get one for your office today.
