Powis Parker Fastback recently released abrand new type of binding strip called the Image Strip and has inventeda new type of binding called "Imagebinding". This new type of bindingrepresents a radically new approach to document presentation. More thana simple binding solution, Imagebinding is a completely new approach tocorporate identity. It allows you to make a strong impression withevery book you bind. The key element of Imagebinding is the ImageStrip, which features a front panel that is large enough to addgraphics, logos and photo images. In fact, you can even design your ownstrips to reflect your corporate branding needs. This article willdescribe in detail the process of binding a document with this newstyle of binding strip using the Fastback Model 9 Binding Machine. There are nine steps to follow. . . 1. Set the Fastback 9 to IMAGE mode. Once the machine is in IMAGE mode, the display will read "READY TO BIND" . . . "IMAGE. " 2. Select your Image Strip according to your document thickness. NarrowImage Strips can bind documents with between 10 and 125 sheets ofpaper. However, the capacity of the image strip will vary depending onthe weight of paper and thickness of covers that you choose. 3. Fold the strip to a 90° angle making sure that the adhesive side faces inward. 4. Place the Image Strip into the binding recess with the adhesive sidefacing up, and the Image Strip's front panel facing the rear of thebinder. The long side of the bent "L" should be resting against theback wall. Then slide the Image Strip all the way to the right. 5. Tamp your document cover and pages on the front flat surface of thehousing so that they are straight. Once your pages are aligned, placethe document on top of the strip with the front of the document facingthe rear of the binder. Make sure that you slide your document all theway to the right so that it is aligned with the edge of your strip. 6. Tap the document on the top and the left to be sure all pages areeven. Then, push the pages backward to ensure proper binding. Check onemore time to make sure that the document edge aligns with the edge ofthe strip. 7. Press the BIND button on the front of the Fastback 9 binding machineand the binding process will begin. If you need to stop the bindingprocess during the first several seconds of the binding cycle, you canpush the OPTN button (the orange button closest to the front) to abortthe whole process. This will open the document clamps and release yourpages. However, you will need to use a new binding strip when theprocess resumes. 8. As soon as the display flashes "REMOVE BOOK," pick up the document and place it against a rear book support fence. 9. Let the bound document cool for at least five minutes. The documentbind will continue to strengthen as the glue cures. The bind strengthwill be maximized after 24 hours. This should provide you with a brief guide for binding documents withthe new Powis Parker Fastback Image Strips and the Model 9 bindingmachine. Using Imagebinding the possibility for branding yourdocuments, reports and proposals is nearly limitless. You can use astandard pre-designed strip or can create your own custom strip that isfully tailored to your organization's image.
