We all suffer from time to time from a feeling of sluggishness; a lack of desire to do the things which we know we should do. You may not feel motivated to exercise, study, and work or even to just to get out of bed in the morning. But there is in fact one single key to getting yourself motivated which applies to absolutely everything. You'll notice that I said "things which we know we SHOULD do"; I did not say "things which we WANT or LIKE to do". Motivation is a feeling; willingness and a desire to do something. Motivation is not something "dry" or emotionless. Motivation has "heart". If you have you heart set upon something, you do not have any difficulty in being motivated, do you? It's all about wanting to do something, looking forward to it, feeling enthusiastic about it. In fact enthusiasm runs hand in hand with motivation. To be motivated you have to feel enthusiastic about whatever it is. And enthusiasm comes from the Greek word meaning "God within". This also implies that to be enthusiastic and motivated you require the ingredient of belief. You have to believe that it's worth it, to have faith that it will work, faith that you will achieve whatever it is that you desire. As an example, let's take exercise motivation. Some people love exercising, they live for their sport, or whatever type of exercise it is that they do. Other people put exercising off, making excuse after excuse as to why they have no time or just can't get around to doing it. What's the difference between these people? The people who love their exercise and sport LOVE doing it! The people who don't feel motivated to exercise do not LOVE it; rather they see it as a dreaded necessity. To be motivated to do anything at all you have to learn how to step back and see things from a different angle; an angle which invokes different feelings - emotions of love, enthusiasm, desire and belief. You have to learn to see the benefits which you want to see in your mind's eye. When you see these benefits clearly, then, and only then, you will believe that you will succeed. That anticipated success provides you with the enthusiasm and motivation which you just couldn't feel before. And so whenever you feel sluggish, negative or lacking in motivation all you need to do is to stop for a moment; pause and take a step back and as you become an observer of your thoughts you can direct your mind to think about things in a different way.
