Nursery Teacher: To become an early years teacher, you will need to complete early years initial teacher training and demonstrate that you’ve met the Teachers’ Standards (early years). For this you will normally need a degree and also GCSEs (A*-C) in English, maths and a science subject, or equivalent qualifications. You will also need to pass Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks. - See more at: https://nationalcareersservice.direct.gov.uk/advice/planning/jobprofiles/Pages/earlyyearsteacher.aspx#sthash.4sCEhuX7.dpuf

Nursery assistant: To become a qualified nursery worker and be counted in the staff-to-children ratios, you will need a recognised Level 2 or Level 3 childcare qualification. This type of qualification is known as ‘full and relevant’, which means it meets certain standards required by law. Examples of full and relevant qualifications include: Level 2 Certificate for the Children and Young People’s Workforce, Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People’s Workforce, Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator) - See more at: https://nationalcareersservice.direct.gov.uk/advice/planning/jobprofiles/Pages/nurseryworker.aspx#sthash.GNjfPbaE.dpuf
Unqulified nursery work: You could start your career by working as a nursery assistant under the supervision of more experienced staff. This could be a paid job or through volunteering. With further training you could move on to become a qualified nursery worker. You do not always need academic qualifications to start training as a nursery assistant or nursery worker. Some course providers and employers may prefer you to have GCSEs, particularly in English and maths (A*-C). Check with course providers for exact details. - See more at: https://nationalcareersservice.direct.gov.uk/advice/planning/jobprofiles/Pages/nurseryworker.aspx#sthash.GNjfPbaE.dpuf
How to become a nursery nurse: A nursery nurse works with young children - ranging in age from birth to around seven - helping them to develop and learn. Nursery nurses work in state-run day nurseries, privately-run nurseries, family centres (such as Sure Start children’s centres), primary schools (in the Early Years stage) and hospitals. They can also work for families as nannies. You’ll need to train at college to become a nursery nurse. There are several routes you can follow (eg NVQ, GNVQ and BTEC qualifications) but the main qualification in England, Wales and Northern Ireland is the National Nursery Examination Board (NNEB) Diploma in Nursery Nursing (which is a two-year course if you do it full time, or three or four years part time). http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/parents/nursery_nurse/
Anyway, check out your local colleges to find out if they offer any NVQ Level 3 courses on Childcare is a good start point.
