Taking the kids skiing later in the year? I see many parents bringing their children back for family ski holidays year after year. If you have been skiing before (particularly with youngsters), you will know that you should not leave planning to the last minute – ski holidays are most enjoyable when they are carefully thought out (this also helps to build anticipation!).Here are a few tips to get the most out of your family vacation and avoid having to arrange last minute ski holidays.Early Bird Catches the WormAs you will be travelling with children, you will want to be booking during the school holidays – which also happens to be the busiest periods! In order to avoid disappointment and get the most variety, book into your accommodation as early as possible. It is more expensive during peak season, but you may find some discounts if you book well in advance.Choosing a ResortThere are many great resorts in France to choose from, but if you are travelling with children then I recommend that you seek out the ones which have the best beginner slopes and ski schools – the kids will not enjoy their holiday if they do not progress! You will also want to find a resort that is family-friendly and has plenty of other facilities to keep them amused for times away from the slopes. Les Gets, Morzine, Méribel and Courchevel are all excellent French resorts for kids.Where to StayEasy access to the slopes is crucial as youngsters do not have the same patience as adults when it comes to the commute. I would recommend booking our chalets that are located close to the nursery slopes and the ski lifts, as these typically are very accommodating to families. If you are staying in a resort that is famed for its après scene, I highly suggest that you look at one of our properties in a quieter area!Clothes and EquipmentIf you do not own ski clothes and equipment then you should borrow or buy second-hand what you can. In terms of equipment, you can rent this from the resort but be sure to book in advance if you are going to be there during peak season.Plan your DaysYou may be happy to spend the entire day shredding powder, but it is unlikely that your brood will. Make a loose plan for each day and limit your kids’ time on the snow to avoid any tantrums or extreme tiredness. If you plan on using a ski school, be sure to book their places in advance. When planning your days, make sure to include a range of different activities that they are sure to enjoy, as well as researching the best family-friendly eateries in the area.If you are anything like me then you will hate leaving things till the last minute. Ski holidays can be booked with Ski Amis at any time of the year to save you the stress of getting everything arranged with no time to spare – so get your diary out and start planning!
