Kanha is situated in the State Madhya Pradesh and it was created in 1955. Located in the Mandla district of Madhya Pradesh. It is a National Park cum tiger reserve extends over an area of over 1,940-sq-kms. Many in species in danger of extinction have been saved here. It’s picturesque setting was an inspiration to Rudyard Kipling who based his famous novel Jungle Book here. The park has extensive grasslands and is well-known for multiplicity of flora and fauna. A magnificent place inside the Park is Bamni Dadar, popularly known as Sunset Point. The place offers most awe-inspiring forest environment. By the salient feature of this jungle are the open lush pastures where sambhar, swamp deer and chital or spotted deer are a familiar sight. The foremost aspect of this region's fascinating landscape is the mascot shape basin and the entire park area is encircled by the spurs of the Mekal Range. The Surpan River meanders through Kanha's central, lowland that cover widespread raised grounds and grasslands. Steep rocky escarpments along the limits offer awe-inspiring mountain and river gorges characterize this forest. Wildlife Attraction of Kanha The foremost flora and fauna attractions in the park are tiger, gaur, bison, sambhar, chital, swamp deer or barasingha, mouse deer, chowsingha, barking deer, nilgai and chinkara. With greater luck one can sight sloth bear, jackal fox, hyena, jungle cat, python, hare, Hanuman monkey, common mongoose and the elusive leopard. The birds species in the park consist of storks, pintails, teals, egret, pond herons, peacock, spur fowl, quail, grey, black and painted partridges, doves, yellow footed green pigeon, parakeets, cuckoos, papihas, rollers, racket tailed drongo, ashy drongo, king crow, bee-eaters, hoopoes, warblers, kingfishers, woodpeckers, owls, and fly catchers. There is a museum at Kanha illustrating wildlife and activity of the park and tribal culture. Best time to visit is in winters which at times are pleasant with an average maximum and minimum temperature. The park is closed from July to August during the monsoon rains.
