It is popularly termed as “Golla Konda” in Telugu or as “Shepherd's Hill”. Originally the fort was constructed during the reign of Yadava dynasty. Later it fell into the hands of many dynasties like Kakatiya, and Bahmani. Further, it was in control of Qutb Shahis and later in the hands of Mughal Dynasty. The Golconda Fort was also home to the world's best diamonds like 'Kohinoor', 'Hope' and the 'Orloff' Diamond. Each and every nook and corner of this magnificent monument echoes its rich heritage and its unparalleled history. The species of reptiles that can be found in the park are giant tortoises, star tortoises, and Indian cobra.
