Shirdi is a holy town in India that needs no introduction. It is a significant religious town which came into prominence because of the great saint Shirdi Sai Baba. It is said the saint came to the town during his teenage years and stayed here till his departure from the mortal world. Throughout his entire lifetime, the saint spread the message of brotherhood and well-being of everyone. The saint is one of the most renowned saints of post medieval era. During the time when he was in Shirdi he lived at different places of the town and preached. The sites where he lived and preached are today turned into important religious sites that own huge reverence and are seen with respect by the locals as well as tourists visiting Shirdi. In the year 1918, the saint finally took Mahasamadhi, leaving his mortal body behind. The town shares an unbreakable association with the saint, and throughout the town the influence of Sai is easily found.Today, Shirdi falls under the district of Ahmednagar, in Maharashtra. It is a small town with an area of expansion of about 3 square kilometres. Being a major religious destination and a significant part of the encompassing state, there exist excellent connectivity to Shirdi from all major cities in India. Mumbai, the commerce capital of the nation is about 297 km away from Shirdi. In addition, the other major cities and their distances from Shirdi include Ahmednagar 82 km, Nashik 80 km, and Kopargaon 16 km. The Nashik domestic airport is the nearest airport to the holy town. Besides, it also houses a major railhead situated close to Shirdi. The good thing is that, a couple of 3 Star hotels in Shirdi offer pick and drop service to the airport as well as railway station.Religion attracts large number of visitors to Shirdi town. The adherent followers of Sai Baba and tourists with religious inclination flock to the town every year in the counts of thousands. Of these the cheap hotels in Shirdi are pretty popular amongst the tourists.The Shirdi temple complex, which comprises of the Samadhi Mandir (the temple that houses the mortal remains of the saint), Gurusthan, Khandoba, Dwarkamai, Lendi Baug, and Chavadi, is the major attraction of the town. Every constituent of the Shirdi Temple complex is associated with the saint as being the places that were visited by Sai Baba at some point of his life. Other than these, there are two other prime Hindu temples, namely Shani Temple, dedicated to Hindu god Shani, and Maruti Temple, dedicated to lord Ganesha. Sai Baba himself saw to it that both of these two Hindu temples get constructed and regular worshipping is done. Meanwhile, there exists number of Shirdi Hotels in the vicinity to these religious sites, making one's trip convenient.
