Whichever of London’s airports you intend using, you are likely to be faced with the decision of how to get to and from it. Your options are probably going to include making a decision between London shuttles or train connections. What are the pros and cons of one versus the other? In favour of trainsThere are a number of points that immediately jump out in terms of supporting using either the mainline rail or underground services (where they exist) to get to or from your chosen airport.• Trains are typically regarded as being environmentally friendly.• Given what is generally accepted to be the chaotic state of British roads in the southeast of England, traffic jams are frequent and trains just don’t experience that. That might mean that the transit time from the airport to the centre of London, at least on paper, looks faster. The counter position with trainsUnfortunately for train advocates, this system suffers from its own disadvantages including the following.• Not all airports have convenient easy access to a mainline station or an Underground connection.• At some airports, perhaps most notably Heathrow, train connections can become extremely crowded at peak times. Some travellers don’t like the pushing, shoving and physical proximity that this type of transport can involve when things become busy.• Some special train connections, such as the express rail service from Heathrow, are not really part of the normal train network and are relatively expensive to use as a result.• On a crowded train, trying to handle a large amount of bulky luggage is often far from convenient and can actually border on being a nightmare.• While they don’t suffer from traffic jams as such, train services can be subject to their own technical challenges and delays - particularly in situations where they are using standard commuter rail networks. In favour of shuttle transfers • London shuttles will typically have luggage space that is perfectly adequate for the number of seats it contains.• If you wish, you can have a vehicle dedicated exclusively to your use or that of your party.• You won’t be jammed cheek-by-jowl with other passengers.• Pickups and drop-offs can usually be arranged directly to your terminal and you won’t have those extremely lengthy travellator or walking connections along seemingly endless tunnels to get to the nearest train station. You may also find that delivery to your destination in London can be arranged at a more convenient location too. What is for you? There is, of course, no right or wrong answer to this one. Some people may prefer London shuttles and their greater convenience whereas some may prefer the slightly greener credentials of rail transport. What is clear is that from a logistical viewpoint, London shuttles may score very highly in a comparison against their rail competitors. They might also prove to be considerably kinder on your budget! Article Tags: London Shuttles, Train Connections
