Like any American, traveling occasionally is just what I love doing and I bet you share the same stuff with me. But traveling does not mean that you would be safe. Anyone who has ever been to the Parthenon, the Eiffel Tower, Buckingham Palace or any iconic landmark in the world, and they’ll tell you that just seeing a photo of these sites is enough to evoke a host of sensations, emotions, and memories. One glance and they’re taken back - reliving some of the best and most exciting times of their lives. Some places simply have a kind of presence and power, able to distil the charm and history of a city to its barest and then bringing it back to life. While most cities would be lucky to have one or two of these iconic sites, Prague is filled with them – it's no wonder the city attracts millions of visitors each year.Listed below are two of city’s best-loved sites to visit once you've settled in from your Prague airport shuttle. Tip: the city centre is small enough for walking tours (many of which are available for free) so once you arrive at Prague Airport, shuttle transfers to and from your accommodation is probably all the transportation you’ll need. The CastleEveryone loves castles and Prague Castle definitely shouldn’t be missed. In fact, you can’t miss it as this sprawling Gothic complex (larger than seven football fields) towers over the city. In fact, it is most likely the first thing visitors will see as they arrive in on the Prague Airport shuttle. Dating back from 870 AD, the castle has lasted for over 13 centuries, beginning its life as a fortress and developing into a royal palace. Over the years, it has added on a cathedral (which houses the remains of St Vitus, as well as several kings and emperors), several churches, a basilica, and a monastery, in addition to the massive gardens, stables, and other buildings. The grounds, upon which concerts and other events are frequently held, are open to the public for free, but there is a paid tour of the castle itself. You can also watch the hourly changing of the guards, which is performed with much pomp and ceremony and makes for the perfect photo opportunity.Old TownIf you have an entire afternoon (or a day) to spend in a single place, you should definitely head to Old Town, which is by and large the most popular area in the city. (You may pass by it on your Prague Airport shuttle, so ask your driver to point it out.) The Medieval Old Town is completely authentic, as its town square has remained nearly unchanged since the 10th century, despite the city’s many invaders and the ravages of time. There’s no end to the iconic and interesting sights Old Town offers - including the town hall’s famous Orloj (which encompasses the Astronomical Clock and Calendarium) and the tower. Climb the tower’s viewing gallery and you’ll be treated to a 360° of the city, as well as a bird’s eye view of some of its famous architecture - including Kinsky Palace, Tyn Cathedral, and St Nicholas Church. The square also features performers such as musicians, dancers, mime artists and various vendors.
