Like any American, traveling occasionally is just what I love doing and I bet you share the same stuff with me. But traveling does not mean that you would be safe. Escaping from our job and other stressful activities is just something that w Torres del Paine is among the biggest of Chiles national parks, occupying almost 600,000 acres (242,000 ha) of land in the south on the border with Argentina. Helicopter tour flights are one of the best ways to see the Grand Canyon National Park. There are a lot of different flights to choose from, and one thing you want to consider is the time of day you fly. Here are a few tips for determining how to pick the best flight for you. Canyon helicopter tours depart from Las Vegas, NV, and Grand Canyon Airport in Tusayan, AZ, the small town located 10 minutes from the gates of the South Rim. There aren't any direct helicopter flights from Vegas to the South Rim. Instead, you will need to take a plane or bus and then transfer to a helicopter. Which Rim is for you? Go for the West Rim if you want thrills and adventure. Choose a landing tour to the West Rim and you can experience the Grand Canyon Skywalk, which is made of glass and allows you to walk out over the canyon far below, or you could take a thrilling boat ride down the Colorado River. The South Rim, also known as the official Grand Canyon, is a popular choice too. It is situated about 270 miles from Las Vegas and is a popular stop for vacationers to Central Arizona. On this Rim, helicopters aren't allowed to descend into the canyon and land on the bottom. However, you will be able to experience the thrill of flying through the deepest and widest area of the National Park known as the Dragoon Corridor. Be prepared for hot weather during the summer months when it usually reaches around 100 degrees every day along the West Rim. You should bring plenty of water, sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat to protect you from the heat and sun. I also suggest you wear a long-sleeved shirt and a pair of running shoes as the terrain is rocky. Winters are relatively mild with temperatures dropping at the beginning of the year. It is a good idea to wear gloves, a hat, and a medium weight jacket to stay warm. The weather along the South Rim is a little different; the summers are cooler. This is because the elevation is 6,000-feet plus. I still recommend you have on your person plenty of water and sun block. South Rim winters are much more extreme. It's colder here, and the chance of snow is greater. Because of the harsh weather conditions, if you visit the South Rim in winter, you will have the park to yourself. The Rim you choose, along with the season of the year and its weather, will affect the time of day you choose to fly. Early morning flights are popular in the summer. That would include any trips that depart before lunchtime. Particularly if you plan to take a landing tour along the West Rim, you want to get an early start so you can avoid the intense late afternoon heat. Another thing to consider is the Arizona rainy season that runs from July through September. Monsoons are basically thunderstorms. Like clockwork, they unfold during mid-afternoon. If you end up flying during this time frame, there's a good chance your flight will get delayed or cancelled. There are other important aspects of morning flights. First, the air is smoother, especially during summer when minor turbulence pick up in the afternoons. Secondly, visibility is better. The summer months are known for being hazy. It is caused by dust, pollution, and even forest fires. One advantage to the haze and particulates in the air is that it creates gorgeous sunsets, so that could make for another pretty time to fly. Still, don't get too upset if morning helicopter tours are sold out. Yes, it's better, but overall, helicopter tours are awesome in and of themselves. Just get yourself airborne over the canyon and you'll see exactly what I mean. Article Tags: Grand Canyon, Helicopter Tours
