Thiruvananthapuram formerly known as Trivandrum is the capital city of Kerala state in India. This particular evergreen city saw large improvements after the Indian independence. This is one among the metropolitan areas of historic value in the Indian subcontinent. The history of Thiruvananthapuram city begins from one thousand B.C. In historic days, it blossomed in the trading of sandalwood, ivory and spices. The large forest treasures of the region led to this. The common notion is the fact that the King Soloman arrived to Thiruvananthapuram city in 1036 B.C. through the Ophir port now named Poovar.Thiruvananthapuram was under the rule of Ays till 10th century A.D. It was attacked by the Chola army at the time of the battle between Chola and Chera from 999 A.D. to 1110 A.D. The kings of Venad succeeded the rule of Ays. Even so the trustees of the temple poisoned the ruler Raja Aditya Varma and killed five children of Rani Umayamma. At the time Rani Umayamma was ruling the place, in 1684, the British East India Company got a bit of land for developing their trade at Anchuthengu also known as Anjengo. It had been situated just 32 kms away from the metropolis of Thiruvananthapuram. Later English widened their region to many other parts also which includes Thiruvithamcore.Mughal Sirdar invaded the place and therefore Rani Umayamma was forced to run to take refuge in Nedumangad. Kerala Varma of Kottayam royal family conquered him and Rani was happy to return to her place. Even so, the temple trustees assassinated Kerala Varma also in 1696. Aditya Varma became the king in the year 1718. During his tenure there were regular troubles by the trustees of the temple. The state of Travancore was founded by Marthanada Varma in the year 1729 with Thiruvananthapuram as its capital. At first Padmanabhapuram was the capital city of the state then it was moved to Thiruvananthapuram city in 1745. He ruled from 1729 to 1758 and did help a great deal to modernize the city. The reconstruction of Padmanabha Swamy temple was carried on in the course of his regime. In the mean time, English East India Company desired to place their troops in Thiruvananthapuram city. So, they signed a treaty in the year 1791 under the pretext of protecting Travancore from Mysore. Maharaja Swathi Thirunal came to the throne in 1829 and reigned over till the year 1847. His period and the period of Maharaja Ayilyam Thirunal in history were named the golden age of Thiruvananthapuram city. An English high school was opened in the year 1834 plus a charity hospital was set up in the year 1836. He was succeeded by Maharaja Uthram Thirunal after which by Maharaja Ayilyam Thirunal. Maharaja Ayilyam Thirunal reigned over the area from 1860 to 1880 and several colleges including the Trivandrum University College and numerous English, Tamil and Malayalam schools were started. During the tenure of Sri Moolam Thirunal from 1885 to the year 1924, Ayurvedic College, Women's College, Sanskrit College and Law College were started. The Legislative Council, the first of its kind in India was inaugurated in the year 1888. The state was after that ruled by Maharani Setu Lakshmi Bai and then by Chitra Thirunal Bala Rama Varma. Right after the independence of India, Travancore joined up with the Indian Union. The state of Thiru-Kochi was created and Thiruvananthapuram city became its capital in 1949. The then emperor Chitra Thirunal Bala Rama Varma was made as the Rajpramukh. The new state of Kerala was created on first November 1956 and Thiruvananthapuram was made as its capital. The VSSC plus the Indian Space Research Organization were set up here. The earliest Information technology park of India, Technopark was begun in the year 1995 and the Thiruvananthapuram photos and Thiruvananthapuram videos show each one of these improvements.
