The elephant was striding slowly amidst the thick jungle on the beaten path. The vegetation around us sometime made a low whispering sound making the surrounding romantic and awe-inspiring. The ambience seemed electrified by an unseen power. Suddenly, our mahaut (driver of the elephant) said something in a very low whisper and pointed us to keep quite putting his index finger on his lips. A mysterious still shrouded. An alarming call of deer was heard.Riding on the elephant we wandered and scanned through jungle which is captivating and full of bio-diversity. We were in Dudhwa National Park; one among the premier national parks of India. While riding through the jungle we found many huge and tall mounds of mud. It was the castle made by the little creatures the white-ants. These castles are the attribute of this area. The white-ants, which play important role in maintaining the eco-balance, are the major delicacies of some of the inhabitants of this park; one of which is sloth-bear. corbett national park Dudhwa National Park was established in 1968 and later in 1977, it was declared as national park. Situated in Lakhimpur Kheri District of Uttar Pradesh in India, the park is spread in 870 square kilo-meter area including 190 square kilo-metres of buffer area. The northern boundary is touched with Nepal and river Suheli forms its southern boundary. It lies at an altitude between 150 meters to 183 meters. The park has mixed area of grasslands, swamps and tall trees. The swamp dots the jungle area and provides a good meeting point for various inhabitants of the jungle. The herbivore ungulates come here to quench their thirst and the majestic carnivores, like tiger, come here both for quenching their thirst and prey. Besides, the feathered creatures the avifauna too add glamour to the area. Its the bird-watchers paradise too.The park has moist deciduous vegetation. Various species of trees and shrubs are the integral part of this area. The important ones are Sal (Shorea robusta), Jamun (Syzygium cumini), Gular (Ficus racemosa), Bahera and Teak (Tictona grandis). The tall trees form a thick canopy. The jungle looks very romantic in spring season when the deciduous trees shed their leaves and wore new ones. The colour of the jungle becomes thrilling with yellow colour of falling leaves and various hues of green colour of emerging new leaves. bandhavgarh national park Hispid hare, a species of mammal group was supposed to be extinct. This species was rediscovered in 1984 here at Dudhwa National Park. Indian one horn rhino, which was once domicile of this area, has been re-introduced here from Assam. They have been kept in an area surrounded by wire to protect them. Besides them Swamp deer, Sambhar, Spotted deer and Hog deer are also permanent resident of this park. They share park space with magnificent and majestic Tiger (Panthera tigris) and Sloth bear. More than 350 species of avifauna grace this park by their presence. From these stations one can reach to Pallia by road. Pallia is a base station for Dudhwa. As you cross river Suheli from Pallia, thick verdure and serene atmosphere of the park will welcome you. A noticeable change is visible. In the park area several rest houses are present where you can stay at moderate rent. If you are fortunate, you can see tiger also. The summers here are very hot, when the temperature reaches up to 40 degree Celsius. Dudhwa National park is a big natural laboratory. Wildlife scientists, naturalists and student get ample opportunity to conduct research and study various animals and diversity.
