Like any American, traveling occasionally is just what I love doing and I bet you share the same stuff with me. But traveling does not mean that you would be safe. Escaping from our job and other stressful activities is just something that w Torres del Paine is among the biggest of Chiles national parks, occupying almost 600,000 acres (242,000 ha) of land in the south on the border with Argentina. It is also among the most important, receiving a significant proportion of domes
One of the most popular things to doat Machu Picchu is to hike up Huayna Picchu, the young mountain that rises upfrom the urban sector of the Lost City of the Incas. For many years now, entrance to Huayna Picchu has been limited to 400 persons per day. Since July2011, securing one of these 400 spaces has required payment of additional fee a regular Machu Picchu entrance costs 128 Soles, whereas a MP entrance withHuayna Picchu costs 152 soles. If youve waited until the last minute to decideto climb HP, dont be surprised to find that you are out of luck. Unlikeregular MP entrances ( which may be available even if you wait to buy yourticket the day of or the day before), the 400 HP entrances sell out quickly, sometimes weeks in advance during the high season (May to September). If you are one of those you wantyour trip to Machu Picchu to include that something extra, there are somealternatives. Even with a regular entrance, there are a few hikes within theInca citadel. These include the Sun Gate and the Inca Bridge. The first hike tothe Sun Gate (or Inti Punku) is a moderate 40 minute walk heading east past theagricultural sector. The second hike to the Inka Bridge (Puente Inca) is aneasy walk to the west, above the urban sector. These two sites were formerlyentrances to Machu Picchu from the Inca Trail and those who are lucky enough tohike the Inca Trail catch their first glimpse of the Inca city after walkingthrough the Sun Gate. For something more challenging, consider climbing Montaña Machu Picchu, the other mountain that rises highabove the city to the south. This mountain reaches an elevation of 2,795 meters(9,179 ft), a climb of nearly 350 meters above the crest of MP, which is at2,450 meters (8,040 ft) still significantly lower than Cuscosgasp-inducing altitude of 3,600 meters (11,800 ft). The ascent is difficult, especiallyfor those who are not acclimated, but not impossible. A total time of 3 hours is recommended toascend the peak, to enjoy the spectacular views, and to descend. Youll get arare angle for pictures of MP far below, and youll also be able to see theHydroelectric Plant, the Urubamba/Vilcanota River, and the surroundingmountains, including the snow-capped Veronica and, with some luck, a peek ofSalkantay. Being at the top gives you new perspective on the audacity of the Incasto build their sacred city amidst the roils of craggy mountaintops. Like Huayna Picchu, entrances to Montaña arealso limited, but unlike the former, the 300 spots rarely sell out. The priceof the ticket is 142 soles.
