Chinatowns all around the world, Hong Kong, Mauritius, Indonesia,Mainland China, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Macau, Taiwan, Thailandand Vietnam all celebrate the Chinese New Year. The reason that theseterritories and countries celebrate this is because they have a high Chinesepopulation within their walls. This has had an influence in the celebration ofthe lunar New Year with their geographic neighbors as well.The Chinese New Year is a major holiday for the people inChina, and is one of a few significant Chinese customs for kids and adultsalike because the Chinese believe the way that how you bring in the New Yearwill be how the year will be for you. With it being one of many Chinese customsfor kids, they will want to know how they should bring in the New Year on theright foot simply so that they can make this New Year a better year than theprevious year. It is always a good idea for the kids to know when they areyounger because then when they get older, they will be able to teach theirchildren and keep the tradition going. Even if you are not Chinese, you can still celebrate theChinese New Year by simply mixing some of our Western traditions with someChinese traditions. A great way to start is to set a goal to learn to speakMandarin Chinese. Even though learning Mandarin Chinese may seem difficult atfirst, at least you will be able to enjoy the Chinese New Year a little bitbetter because then you will be able to understand what is going on a littlebit more, especially when somebody is talking or when you see a sign that is inMandarin Chinese.
