WhenFranco died and Carlos ascended to power the language was instantlyreinstated and is now one of the recognized languages of the region. There are three languages each accepted asofficial languages of Catalonia. Catalan, Spanish and Aranese. Occitan (Arenese) is a Romance language adescendant from Latin, spoken in the Val d'Aran, Catalonia, insouthern France, Italy's Occitan Valleys and in Monaco. Since 2010 The language of Occitan is officiallyrecognised, and known as Aranese in the Val d'Aran.
