This city lies alongside the shores of Lake San Roque and within the Punilla Valley, itself a popular destination for Argentine vacationers. With Cordoba just 22 miles (36 km) away, Villa Carlos Paz is great for either a day trip or an overnight stay. The Mediterranean climate attracts visitors, independent travelers, and conventions around the year. It also host the annual Rally de Argentina, the countrys principal road race that winds through the nearby valley and mountain roads. Villa Carlos Paz is bisected by the San Antonio River and the stream, Los Chorrillos. The city hosts excellent attractions during the day and at night. The towns streets are lined with theaters, cafes, and restaurants. In mid-summer, theater season is in high swing, attracting thousands of national tourists to the city. The Aerosilla is a chair lift that takes visitors up to the peak of Cerro de la Cruz and offers excellent panoramic views of town and valley. These are great places to enjoy a barbeque, live music, and good crowds and some also operate at night. The area is characterized by rivers, lakes, and reservoirs, including Cruz del Eje and La Falda, which serve a recreational areas. The surrounding mountains and valleys are also ideal for day hikes and excursions. The Punilla Valley extends to the north. The Calamuchita Valley is to the south and boasts rivers and reservoirs for bathing. The mountain peaks known as the Taslasierra and Los Gigantes are to the east and west respectively. With a year round temperate climate, the area is suitable for biking, trekking, horseback riding, rappelling, and sport fishing. Cordoba is known for its many educational institutions, including La Doca, one of the oldest on the continent.
