Puerto Madero is an increasingly important waterfront district in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina. A visit to this trendy neighborhood is a must for any Argentina travel program in Buenos Aires. The highlights of this district include first-class hotels, excellent restaurants, a vibrant nightlife, and other attractions.Originally designed as a port for cargo ships, Puerto Madero was completed but quickly became obsolete with the advent of even larger cargo ships. Another port was constructed and the area became neglected, occupied mostly by warehouses. In the 1990s, investors launched a massive redevelopment project that transformed the old warehouses into offices, lofts, private universities, and other commercial enterprises. The final touch of this facelift was marked by the opening of the Buenos Aires Hilton.
