Thereare many places to see and visit around St. Austell holiday cottages. Eachplace has a history attached to it, and is quite interesting. St. Austellholiday cottages offer you a chance to see these places. BODMINJAILItwas built in 1778 to keep criminals from the entire country of Cornwall. Thiswas first known to keep inmates in separate cells those whose crimes werenotorious in nature for public executions by hanging which took place outsidethe jail until in 1862. After 1862, the executions after that took place withinthe jail premises till 1909. Atfirst the structure is so scary that anyone might get scared, however as you goalong the air cools in the dull underground passage, in which so many hundredsof prisoners have passed. It looks as it is haunted, and thats what makes itquite popular amongst tourists. Today it is become a museum, open to thegeneral public. The information regarding the prisoners along with their crimesand punishments has all been kept as records. The prison was closed in the year1927 and since then it is quite a popular tourist attraction. This was alsoshow cased in one of the television series as the most haunted place inBritain. The jail is open for public from 10am till sunset, throughout theyear. There is a restaurant, a bar and a gift shop for the people visiting thisplace.BOCONNOC HOUSE AND GARDENS This one is a private owned estate close tothe St. Austell holiday cottages. Occasionally it is open for thegeneral public for charitable events. It has the oldest example of a medievalDeer park in Cornwall. Many of the trees here are very old, which have very oldmosses and lichens and these were planted in the 16th century. Landscapingand the other enhancements were done much later on in the 18thcentury, which including building two shrines and a stone bathing pool. Thereis a garden by the name of Dorothy, which has lovely trees including tuliptrees, and yews around an attractive fountain. The view of the garden from the house is also very pretty.BODWINAND WENFORD RAILWAY STATION This was the first steam worked railway inCornwall and also one of the initial in the world which used to carry people inBritain. This is a part of the network of railways around Bodmin from 1834;this is where the original Bodmin and Wade bridge railways opened. The line ranfrom Wadebridge to Wendfordbridge, with a line to Bodwin as well. This wasprimarily built to transport sand to Camel Estuary. The Bodmin line opened fromBodmin Parkway to Bodmin in 1887 and then a second line was set up from Bodwinto Boscarne Junction, this took place a year later and this was used to connectwith the original Bodmin and Wadebridge railway. This was even there during the2nd world war and used for transporting locomotives at that point oftime.
