The torchrunner for the Olympics in Birmingham has been announced. As many are sure to book into one of the many hotels in Derby to catch a glimpse of the flame running through the city, it has been revealed that a charity fundraiser who previously helped over 200 men to beat cancer would be running.The holder will be 64-year old Graham Fulford who will be carrying the flame in Warwick. The acknowledgment comes after he raised £250,000 in the past six years in order to help 12,000 men get the treatment for prostate cancer that they could not have usually had, meaning that 225 cancers being fully treated.This news comes in conjunction with a full map of the torch relay also having been released at the official London 2012 website. There will be in total 7000 torchbearers who will run with the flame from May 19th to July 27th that is an average of about 115 different people each day. Nomination schemes had been run this past year by sponsors such as Lloyds TSB, Samsung and Coca-cold, which decided who the torchbearers would be exactly. The flame will be carried all across the country until it reaches the opening ceremony of the Games. Already it has emerged that there will be strange ways of carrying the torch such as using a chair lift on the Isle of Wight, skate with it in Nottingham, abseil with it down the Grimsby Tower, zip wire across the Tyne Bridge in Newcastle and rowed with it at the Henley-On-Thames. With this news, it means that people and communities can start sorting out their celebration parties for when the flame arrives in their area.In terms of Derby, the torch will arrive here and then go into Birmingham on June 30th so be sure to book into a cheap Birmingham hotel for the festivities that evening. The flame will then carry on into Stoke, Worcester and Coventry. Either way, it is sure to be a spectacular event, leading up to a fantastic summer that none of us will want to miss!
