But traveling does not mean that you would be safe. Escaping from our job and other stressful activities is just something that w
When scheduling your ANDALUCIA VILLAS this year why not treat yourself to something extra special only found in the little mountain village Gaucin in the Serrania de Ronda Region of the Malaga province? It is really small with only 1,840 inhabitants, not counting the livestock. This is one of those little mountain villages that when it comes time to leave you will find it almost impossible to go back home and leave all this splendour behind. The village is believed to have Roman origins especially with the remains of some ancient Roman buildings only four miles away in Casa del Abrevadero. Closer to home is an ancient necropolis from an even older civilization only 2.5 miles away in the area of Loma de Enmedio. To fortify this belief in Roman origins, there are a number of Roman roads running through the area between Gibraltar and Ronda. This also includes the roads leading up to the mines at Los Reales and Hacho de Gaucin.Being built in a mountainous region Gaucin has some steep streets incurring numerous steps to be built. When you add the whitewashed houses reminiscent of Moorish times you have one of the most attractive villages in the Sierra de Ronda region. Its not hard to believe that in the 19th century artist were drawn to this sleepy little hamlet for the inspiration found only here.Like a lot of mountain villages from the Moorish period Gaucin has its castle: the Castille de Gaucin sitting on top of the tallest peak in the area. Sadly the castle that once stood proudly in all its glory is now in ruins. The only remaining part is three wells and an escape route believed to be installed by the Moors, although the San Nino chapel is still here which was used to house the soldiers from the castle. There are a number of old buildings some of which have been restored including the 16th century parish church San Sebastian situated in the middle of the village. There is also the 18th century Fuente de los Seis Canos along with some grand houses from the 17th and 18th centuries. They are easily recognizable with their intricate work in the balconies and doors. When booking your ANDALUCIA VILLAS, see if its possible to schedule them around Easter Sunday if you would like to be present for the Toro de Guerda. This is something else to watch but to take part some people say you have to be a little crazy. This is none other than the celebration running of the bulls where young men try to prove their bravery or some say their stupidity. If you plan on taking part be sure to come early to plot your journey through the maze of streets and, more importantly, your hiding places just in case they get close enough for you to feel their hot breath on your neck. And some people call this fun? When you are finished, you can sit at the local cafe in the plaza with the flower filled tubs and think what could have happen.
