Starting 30 minutes north of Paramountis Manhattan Beach,where you can visit the Roundhouse Marine Studies Lab and Aquarium. Thisaquarium, located at the end of the Manhattan Beach Pier, offers lots ofup-close and person exhibits and well as hands-on exhibits that teach visitorsabout the marine life of the Pacific Ocean.Admission is free, but a suggested donation of $2 to $5 per guest is optional.Keep in mind when planning your trip that the aquarium is only open from 3pm tosunset on weekdays and 10am to sunset on weekends.Just south of Manhattan Beach,and directly west of Paramount, is Redondo Beach. There area lot of fun activities to enjoy here both in the Pacific Ocean and on the coast. A must see is the Redondo Beach Pier,which is home to lots of unique shops and seaside restaurants. Also in Redondois the Redondo State Beach,which is very accessible and always clean. While in Redondo you can even take awhale watching tour out in the open waters of the Pacific Ocean.Further south in Ranchos Palos Verdes,you can explore the Abalone Cove Shoreline Park and EcologicalReserve. This park features several different walking or hiking trails thatmeander along the shore and up to several great bluffs viewing areas. Whenhiking along the shore you will pass several tide pools, which often are fullof sea life like sea urchins and starfish. This is a great place to get upclose and personal with the ocean life of the Pacific Ocean. Admission is free, but parking is $5.South of Ranchos Palos Verdes, anddirectly south of Paramountif taking the 710, is San Pedro. In San Pedro you can explore the Angles Gate (Los Angeles Harbor)Lighthouse, the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, the Point Fermin Lighthouse and the Royal Palms State Park Beach. There are lots ofdifferent hands-on activities to experience at the Cabrillo Marine Aquariumthat help teach you about the ocean life and ecosystem of the Pacific Ocean inthis area. You can even go on a whale watching excursion after browsing theaquarium, which was build by Frank Lloyd Wright and features one of the largestcollections of Pacific Ocean sea life.Admission is free but a donation of $1 per child and $5 per adult is suggested.Just east ofSan Pedro along the coast is Long Beach and of course there are tons of activities toenjoy at the beach here. Some of the most popular activities here includetaking the Aquabus or Aqualink Catamaran across the lagoon to Rainbow Harbor for lunch, both of these modes oftransportation are part of the Long Beach public transportation system and provide arelatively cheap way to experience the seaside town and even see some oceanlife and bird on your trip. The Pike at RainbowHarbor has lots of restaurants andshops as well as a Ferris wheel that overlooks the Pacific Ocean.Continuing along the coast from Long Beach will take you to Seal Beach. Here, the most popular attraction, aside fromthe beautiful beach is Main Street.This area of town features six art galleries, 49 unique shops, 24 restaurantsand four antiques stores. Another popular attraction to enjoy in Seal Beach is the SealBeach Jetty. This is a hot spot for surfers from all over the world. Whetheryou want to relax on the beach while watching some pros or get in the surf andtry it yourself, Seal Beach is one of the bestplaces in the Paramount area to do it. Most all of the beaches along the coastfrom Manhattan Beach all the way down to Sunset Beachhave a selection of shops where you can rent surfboards, kayaks, paddle boards,bicycles, wave runners and boats. Many of these shops also offer lessons forbeginners or informative tours. Each major public beach also offers showerstations, parking lots, snack bars and lifeguard service.
