Like any American, traveling occasionally is just what I love doing and I bet you share the same stuff with me. But traveling does not mean that you would be safe. Escaping from our job and other stressful activities is just something that w Torres del Paine is among the biggest of Chiles national parks, occupying almost 600,000 acres (242,000 ha) of land in the south on the border with Argentina. It is also among the most important, receiving a significant proportion of domes
You have chosen to experience what true Spanish rural holiday is all about when booking your ANDALUCIA VILLAS in the village of Aracena which just happens to be the main village in the Natural Park. This little village has a population of only 7,500 people, not counting the pigs or goats of which there are a lot. As the village encroaches on the hilltop where an impressive Moorish castle is located, you will notice the excellent restaurants and tapas bars where you can sample some of the best cuisine anywhere around. This area is also home to a Saturday market if you need to stock up your villa. There is a secret below where you walk and is probably the most famous landmark in the area: the Gruta de las Maravillas or the Cave of Wonders. For years no one knew this marvel was hidden here in the bowels of the earth. It is said that a pig discovered it by accident when it fell through a crevice; when its owner tried to retrieve the pig he came face to face with the largest cave in all of Spain. In its mile and a half long aperture there are subterranean lakes with an abundance of stalactites and stalagmites giving off some striking colours. There is any number of beautiful little villages you can explore on your journey starting with Alajar home to a 17th century shrine known as Arias Montano. This shrine stands on a promontory with pilgrims riding horses or mules pulling carts coming here each year to pay homage to Arias Montano. Another good example of Moorish architecture is in the village of Almonaster de la Real, a 10th century Mosque. Get your map out and take a look at these ancient villages all there just waiting to be explored, more especially Aroche which is fortified with medieval walls overlooking the woods interspersed with meadows and, of all things, a bull ring in the middle of its Moorish castle. To view a surreal landscape, take the short journey over to the huge opencast mine; this is laughingly said to be larger than the craters found on the moon. This mammoth mine is believed to be the oldest such place in the world and during its lifetime produced iron ore, silver, copper, sulphur and a lot of other minerals. The opening is measured in kilometres creating an area similar to an amphitheatre. If you are here at sunset the colours emanating from this pit are at the best eerie. The colours include blues, yellows, greens, reds and browns which have found their way into the rocks and rivers flowing through this desolate place. The other interesting fact about this place is when the British came here to operate the mine they also brought the game of football with them; hence this was the venue for the first football game played in Spain. When youre setting around your ANDALUCIA VILLAS give a thought to the greatest culture ever to exist and you have the opportunity to sample it here and now. You are in an area with a multitude of stunning buildings be they castles, churches, convents, houses or simply an old building that has passed quietly into antiquity without giving up its secrets or its use. So get out there and enjoy what past civilizations have left behind and while you are at it give a silent thanks to the people who preserved them for you and future generations.
