Later on that remained anindependent nation from the year 1947 to the year 1949 until it was taken overby India.   Emperor Bhoja of Paramara dynasty who reigned over from 1000AD to 1055 AD is said to have launched Bhopal. It was called after him asBhojpal and the name Bhopal is the mutation of that name. ‘Pal’ indicates damand he called it Bhojpal as he built dam over it. It's also called Bhupal andBhoopal at the time of the rule of British.   Initially Bhopal was a little hamlet which was a portion ofGond Kingdom. Dost Mohammad Khan, the knight of the Mughal army founded thenewer city of Bhopal. In exchange to his mercenary solutions, Rani Kamlapati,the Gond Queen presented him Bhopal City. The demise of King Aurangazeb and thepolitical instability of Malwa region made favorable to him and he set up theBhopal state in 1720 by adding a few areas with it.   Nizam Ul Mulk attacked Bhopal in 1724 taking away quite afew territories. The control of Dost Mohammed Khan brought Islamic culture intobeing within this area. He set up the city of Islamnagar. After he passed awayin 1728, this arrived under the control of Nizam. In the year 1737 in theBattle of Bhopal, Marathas conquered Mughals and after that Nawab Faiz MuhammedKhan moved his capital city to Bhopal from Islamnagar.   During the First Maratha war in 1778, Bhopal City continuedto be friendly for the British East India Company. Anglo-Bhopal Treaty of theyear 1818 brought Bhopal City beneath the command of British Raj in India. FourBegums such as, Qudsia Begum, Nawab Sikandar Begum, Begum Sultan Shah Jehan andBegum Kaikhusrau Jahan dominated this location from the year 1818.   At the time of the phase of Begums, numerous developmentsincluding waterworks, railways and postal system were introduced to the place.Qudsia Begum constructed Jama Masjid and Gohar Mahal. Her daughter SikanderBegum constructed Moti Mahal and Moti Masjid. Her successor Shah Jahan Begumalso constructed several structures including Nawab Manzil, Barah Mahal,Khawasoura, Mughal Pura plus a mini city referred to as Shahjahanabad.   Nawab Hamidullah Khan was ruling over the state during theIndian independence. Bhopal agreed upon the Instrument of Accession in the year1949 and it turned a portion of India on first May 1949. While the newer stateof Madhya Pradesh was formed in 1956, Bhopal was made as the capital city.   The history of Bhopal City would not be complete if notmentioned about the Bhopal City Tragedy of the year 1984. The worst industrialdisaster occurred on third December 1984. The leakage of toxic gas, methylisocyanate out of the Union Carbide India Limited pesticide production plantled to the loss of a large number of people living in and around Bhopal. Ittriggered numerous continual problems and psychological challenges. Earth andground water were toxified. The Bhopalphotos and Bhopalvideos speak of thisgreatest catastrophe. In spite of all these issues, Bhopal City is improving onall spheres, financial, academic, commercial and political.
