But traveling does not mean that you would be safe. Escaping from our job and other stressful activities is just something that w
What will you be doing on Christmas Day? I suspect the majority of people will be spending the festive season with their families and enjoying festive traditions such as watching the kids open their presents from Santa Claus. Many of us will probably enjoy a giant Christmas Dinner with roasted vegetables and all the turkey trimmings, before settling down in front of the TV to watch the Queens Speech. However, for some hardcore fans of the British Royal Family, the Queens Speech is not enough. They want to feel closer to the action. Thats why a lot of people are spending this Christmas in Scotland. I met one such family who explained their festive plans whilst I was staying at a central Glasgow hotel earlier this year. They were on a reconnaissance trip to work out their plans during the season to be jolly. Thats because the famous Balmoral Castle is situated in Scotland. Balmoral Castle is, of course, the official Scottish residence of the British Royal Family. The estate is made up of over 20,000 hectares of land, in the magnificently wild Scottish countryside. The estate has been the home of the Royal Family since Prince Albert purchased it for Queen Victoria in 1852. Unfortunately the original castle was deemed too petite for the grand nature of the Royals, thus a new building built from Glen Gelder granite was designed under the leadership of Prince Albert. Since the death of Queen Victoria in 1901, Balmoral has been passed on through the generations to each of her successive monarchs. A good number of Balmoral Castle hotels gear up for the Christmas season every year knowing that they will welcome a number of die hard Royal fans that wish to be close to the estate. Although Queen Elizabeth is not in residence on Christmas Day (the Royals traditionally spend Christmas at Sandringham in Norfolk) fans like to get a feel of the heritage of the area, and feel as if theyre one step closer to royalty themselves.
