Vieste and Gargano National Park territory are one of the most important resources of the whole Apulia and thanks to the large number of accommodation facilities the Gargano is the favourite destination chosen by thousands of tourist every year. Its importance is worldwide well-known, because the area can offer an infinite number of landscapes, beaches, historical buildings, in a word 360 degrees tourism.Over the last few years this vocation has produced further investment and efforts news hotels and holiday villages in order to relaunch a product that last year suffered a setback. Many fires have hit the Gargano coast and they have ruined the wonderful image created during the years. They have been so much publicized that tourism drastically decreased and the economy of the whole area has been damaged.Last summer, on 24th July, we were long way away from the involved area yet we felt attacked, powerless, disillusioned and abandoned. This is a statement made by the 23-year-old Giuseppe Demartino, fan of the Gargano National Park and promoter of www.abcgargano.com, a complete blog about the Gargano whose target is to enhance that wonderful area, the Apulian country, where tourism is one of the most important source of economy. That day the sympathy between local people and tourists was so strong that we like to remember it as memory day: that morality has been recognized and awarded by the President of the Council of Ministers with the bravery award for the most involved villages and for some people who helped saving human lives. New needs and a strong will to do something emerged during the fire and thats the reason why the idea of the website has born: make the area known all over the world, with its history, origins, traditions, resources and its illustrious personalities. This site has become soon a useful means to publish articles about Vieste and the Gargano National Park, in english and german as well. Thats the idea of Giuseppe Demartino to look at the future with a perspective of hope and optimism. The 24th July was not only a bad day for Gargano: it has motivated many young people to relaunch this territory and give it back its natural vocation.
