San Diego, California, is one of the largest cities in southern California and has a warm climate all year long. Here are some of the events that you can enjoy without spending a lot of money in and around the San Diego area.Julian Apple Festival The Julian Apple Festival takes place in Julian and is free for the entire family. It takes place in during the first two weeks of November when the apples are harvested. In addition to getting a taste of some of the most delicious Julian apples that are grown in this region, you can also taste apple pie and cider as well as enjoy entertainment. Julian is well worth visiting for the annual apple festival. Mother Goose ParadeThe annual Mother Goose parade is something that kicks off the holidays for the younger children. This event takes place the Saturday before Thanksgiving every year and includes a parade in East County that includes floats with the Mother Goose theme, horse, bands and clowns. This is an ideal, free parade for the kids. Annual Holiday Of Lights Drive Through ShowIf you are looking for the largest animated light show in the west coast, you have found it at the Del Mar Fairgrounds. There is a fee per car, but you get to drive through 400 different displays of lights at the fairgrounds. This event is held from Thanksgiving Day until the day after New Year's Day. It is an ideal way to celebrate the holidays with your family and the cost is only a nominal fee per car. Cannon Photography Photo Contest If you enjoy photography, you might enjoy entering the Cannon Photography contest. This is held for the first three weeks of April every year and offers you ca chance to participate in the Cannon workshop as well as view the Flower Fields of Carlsbad, which is where the event occurs. There is a small fee to join the contest and participate in the workshop of not more than $10. KIFM Jazz FestivalSan Diego, like most other cities, has a jazz festival. This is located in the downtown area and is sponsored by the Gaslamp Quarter Association. Jazz bands from all over come to play at this festival that takes place on the second to the last Saturday of May each year and takes place at the Gaslamp, but ends up spilling out into different clubs. San Diego County FairThe San Diego County Fair is held in the last two weeks of August each year at the county fair grounds. If you have not been to a county fair, you will find that the San Diego County Fair is one of the bet places to start. There are traditional fair activities such as contests for pies and other foods as well as a carnival and lots of foods. There is also entertainment galore at the San Diego County Fair. There is plenty to do when you visit San Diego that does not have to cost you or your family a lot of money so do come and visit!
