The Rub BuaFestival or the Lotus Flower Receiving Festival at Bang Phli is a traditionhere where people line up on the sides of the Samrong Canal and throw lotusflowers at the Buddha image on a boat . It is celebrated a day prior to thelast day of the Buddhist Rain Retreat. The most celebrated festival in Thailandis the Songkran Festival or the Thai New Year which is observed every 13th ofApril and this lasts for three days. People in Samut Pakran celebratethis too. It is also termed now as the Water Festival because of the practiceof Thai people in sprinkling or splashing of water on each other to wash awaybadluck. Chinese communities in Thailand including Samut Prakan, celebrates the10- day Vegetarian Festival every year at the Rongjae Thongsiang on the lastweek of September. Food stalls at Taiban Circle sell vegetarian food so ifveggies are your favorite, come here during the celebration of this event. Wealso have festivals related to food like the Paknam Food Festival, the PaknamSeafood and Trade Fair and the Fruit Festival at Ancient Siam. The Paknam FoodFestival happens every first day of the month. At this event, the western endof Naraiprapsuek Road is closed, food of different kinds are sold. This FruitFestival at Ancient Siam is an event not to promote the various fruits in theplace but to help the Thai farmers by buying fruits. On the month of April whenchildren are on school break, boys are ordained as novice monks for a month andtheir hair are shaved off. We also have the Long-boat races which takes placeusually in October after the end of the Buddhist Rains Retreat.
