Torres del Paine is among the biggest of Chiles national parks, occupying almost 600,000 acres (242,000 ha) of land in the south on the border with Argentina. It is also among the most important, receiving a significant proportion of domes Like any American, traveling occasionally is just what I love doing and I bet you share the same stuff with me. But traveling does not mean that you would be safe. Escaping from our job and other stressful activities is just something that w
This is of course however not to say the other islands are not worth visiting! The following are some of the main attractions available at the Channel Islands. The Royal Square at the end of pier road is a favorite place for many sight seers. This is where the Jersey Museum and art gallery is located. Here you will be able to find some great works of art and artifacts. There are even objects leftover from the Bronze Age on display here, as well as some great paintings. St Aubins Harbor is a favourite jaunt where people walk around and enjoy the scenery. This place is also well known for some spectacular views of sunsets. Then for your evening meal there are some great restaurants worth visiting at the harbor. Other attractions include golfing at the Royal Jersey golf club and wine tasting. After all, these islands are not far from France; therefore, not surprisingly wine is a big part of the culture here! One great place for wine tasting is the La Mare Vineyards Estate, where you will be able to taste the local fare. Another popular golf course is the Greve DAzette, also known as the Nine hole Wheatlands. Even though the Channel Islands have a history dating back perhaps thousands of years, events that happened here approximately 70 years ago are very important. This would be the Nazi occupation which happened on these islands during World War 2. The Chanel islands were invaded by Germany and taken over in 1940. To this day, the islands retain some of scars of the war, which can be seen with the help of guided tours. Some of tours will include the infamous war tunnels, used by the occupying forces. In 1959 the famous zoologist Gerald Durrell started a wildlife habitat sanctuary on Jersey, to which he devoted much of his time until he passed away in 1995. Today the Jersey Zoological Park attracts many people each year, to see wildlife living in faithfully recreated surroundings.Guernsey, the other main island is also without a doubt worth visiting. This island is a little bit more laid back, compared to the Jersey group of islands. However, this is exactly the reason why people flock here from all over Europe and beyond. This island boasts of great sandy beaches, and plenty of small family owned stores to do some shopping. One of the reasons why the Channel Islands as a whole are popular with visitors is because there is a favourable tax policy, making things quite cheap. Not only that, there are guided coach holidays that will take you around once you reach the islands.
