You’re getting close to that time of the year, the time whenyou go on a well deserved vacation. The only problem is deciding where to go.It doesn’t matter what part of the world you live in, there is always aplethora of options for vacation time. I feel you really couldn’t go wrong withany of the options laid out before you. But there is one place in particularthat has been close to my heart that I want to tell you about… Lake Tahoe. Lake Tahoe is located in Sierra Nevada Mountain Range andstraddles both California and Nevada. It’s a place that despite being a hugetourist attraction has continued to maintain a down to earth and homey feelwhich adds to its natural charm.  Itmaintains mild whether throughout the summer months rarely ever getting above80 but during the winter the temperatures can drop in the 20s. There are twomain places to stay at on the Lake, Tahoe City and South Shore. South Shore is more ofthe party side. It features a strip of Casinos, the only 5 star resort on theLake, a brand new shopping center, The Heavenly Gondola, night clubs, bars, andmany delicious restaurants. It may sound flashy but the truth is despite havingall that it maintains the above mentioned homey feeling. The only part that isremotely flashy are the casinos. Most of the restaurants and shops are made outof the wood keeping with the natural state of being located in the mountains. Thereare also many different beaches, hiking paths and biking trails you can enjoy. If you go down 89/Emerald Bay Road you will come across CampRichardson which is a must see on your Tahoe trip. The best ice cream you shallever eat is there, not only does it taste great but they give you this massiveamount for a good price. Let’s put it this way, ordering a kids scoop is prettymuch equal to ordering a double scoop at a Baskin Robins. Also on 89 is theTallac Historical Site and the Taylor Creek Visitor Center. The TallacHistorical Society features the homes of the three different prominent familiesfrom the late 1800’s and early 1900’s. You can tour the homes and see how lifewas for the wealthy back then. Taylor Creek features one of the best naturewalks in Tahoe, the difficulty level is easy meaning that anyone can enjoy thesights it has to offer. You can also rent bikes and take them on the trailswith you.Most of the shopping is featured in the new shopping area bythe Heavenly Gondola but you can find interesting little shops throughout themain street of South Shore. The Heavenly Gondola itself is something that youshould check out. It takes you to the top of the mountain giving you a bird’seye view of Lake Tahoe as well as some fascinating hiking trails. As far asrestaurants go I can recommend these with ease; Lake Tahoe Pizza Co. (there isa good chance this will be the best pizza you ever eat), The Brewery at LakeTahoe,  The Buffet at Harrahs, and theFire & Ice Grill. And you have to try out Sam’s Place Bar & Grill.Sam’s Place is on Highway 50 past the Casinos by Zephyr Cove. They have the bestgarlic bread with melted cheese on top… yummy. Can’t miss checking it out. As for Zephyr Cove itself they have a little gift shop, adecent restaurant, and one of the most happening beaches in all of Lake Tahoe.The beach at Zephyr features a bar on the beach, where they will serve youdrinks while you’re laying out getting sun as well as volleyball courts thatalmost always have a match going on. You can rent paddle boats, speed boats,water skis, wake boards and even parasailing equipment. You can book cruisesfor the Dixie Queen and the Woodwind ships that dock at Zephyr Cove. I have to be honest, I don’t know as much about North Shore/Tahoe City because I haven’t stayed there in years. It is a lot quieter thanSouth Shore. I can recommend the restaurant at Fanny Bridge, they haveexcellent food. There is also a water rafting place located across the riverfrom the restaurant that I recommend checking out. Some other must see placesin Lake Tahoe are Fallen Leaf, which features beautiful hiking trails that takeyou up into the mountains, Emerald Bay and the Vikingsholm Castle.The people there are without a doubt some of the greatestpeople you will ever meet. They are all very kind, sweet, and happy. They justlove where they are so much that it affects their daily attitude. I have beengoing there for over 20 years and I haven’t seen one person who lives theirunhappy or upset in any way. Lake Tahoe just seems to have that effect onpeople, it washes all of your troubles away and makes you feel like yourfloating on air. It’s one of those places that once you go it never leavesyour mind and it will always have a place in your heart. It doesn’t matter whatage you are, what your interests are, Lake Tahoe has something for everyone.
